Volunteering with GCSN

Welcome!  GCSN is a nonprofit organization.  Our programs are run by unpaid volunteers, who are passionate about science and education. If you'd like to volunteer your time or are interested in becoming a part of GCSN leadership.  Please fill out the Google form if you are interested volunteering.  

Generally we speak with volunteers and place them according to their time and interest.

Conferences

The answer is attend a GCSN conference or other STEM conference.

GCSN conferences are truly grassroots - meaningful science and education topics AND run by educator-volunteers.   There are two ways to experience a conference - as a participant or a volunteer, or best yet, a combination of the two!


As a participant you will hear keynote speakers and  attend smaller breakout sessions, plus network with vendors and other teachers.  We will make sure you have energy (yes we will feed you!) and time for hands-on fun.  


As a volunteer, you determine how much time you wish to commit.  This conference is volunteers run.  Volunteers do it all - from deciding the theme, to recruiting speakers or being a speaker, set up, hosting, and cleanup.  We rely on the before-the-conference-volunteers as much as the at-the-conference-volunteers.  We need you!  If you want to help others experience hand-on growth, volunteer at a conference!  

Committee Meetings

Helping on a committee is a low-key way to start getting involved in the grassroots side of the organization.  If you are interested in participating on a committee, please Please fill out the Google form and we will notify the committee chair and let you know when and where the next meetings are scheduled to take place.  Current committees include

Board Meetings 

GCSN is a non-profit and is run by a board of volunteers - most former educators who are passionate about science, education, and people.  Our job is to make sure GCSN complies with the legal requirements of being a non-profit and carries out its Mission/Purpose. Board meetings are public and take place quarterly (see Events), typically through Zoom or at the Ventura County Office of Education. All are welcome to attend. Please let us know you are interested through email so we may get you the meeting information.
